Fellowship Programme in Palliative Medicine

The Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI) and the Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM have jointly collaborated to organize this distance learning – fellowship programme for doctors in Palliative Medicine. Palliative Medicine is an integral part of the complete care rendered to those affected by terminally ill diseases. Special knowledge and skills are needed in order to care for and treat these patients with special needs. While people all over the world have realized its importance and relevance, the concept still needs to gather support and involvement in our country.

Aims of the Fellowship Programme
Equip doctors with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver proper palliative care services. Tune the practice of medicine making it more ‘person centric’ by providing new insights and perspectives.

Course Design
The Course will be based on a distance education mode of one-year duration. However, students have the option to extend the Course for an additional year.The Course includes 10 modules and assignments that have to be completed within a specific time frame. One module will deal with management issues.Also included are two clinical postings, 10 days duration each at specified training centers.

Regular written examinations and case presentations will be held; the final examination conducted at the time of course completion.

Faculty

Pioneering and experienced Palliative Care Consultants holding academic teaching positions in Government and Non- Government institutions. Overseas visiting faculty will also be invited to teach at the Training centers during contact session.

Although based at any of these centers, students will also be exposed to the work of other institutions and have field trips.

Course Fee

For Doctors for the total programme: Rupees 30,000/-. (The mentioned fee is tentative and does not include costs of contact programmes, travel, boarding and lodging).

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants should hold an MBBS degree recognized by the Medical Council of India and have two years of clinical experience in any area.
