Bruce Davis Gold Medal Examination was launched by Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode, India, in 2005 with an aim to improve awareness about palliative care among young doctors in India. This is the only national level program to honour junior doctors for their excellence in Palliative Medicine.

ELIGIBILITY
Doctors who appear for their final MBBS examination in the current year (2017) and those who have successfully completed MBBS not earlier than 2012 from any recognized Medical College in India are eligible.
If qualified for Step II examination (Refer below) the candidate has to bring original or certified proof of their qualifying examination.

THE EXAMINATION INCLUDES TWO STEPS:
Step I: An open online screening test at national level which the candidate can do at his/her conveience. Step I screening test comprises of 100 MCQs. 60% of questions are from the subjects covered during the MBBS Course and 40% questions are from Palliative Medicine.
Step II: The final examination will be held at the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode where the candidates who secure top five spots in the step I screening test will be further evaluated. The step II examination consists of two parts; Theory and assessment of clinical skills.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE SCREENING TEST?

Candidates once registered can login with registered email and password at any time. The candidate can take his/her own time to complete the screening test. Confirmed answers will be saved. Remember to submit your answers on or before 30th October 2017. Once submitted, you will not be able make any modification. If you wont submit your answers on or before 30th October, your registration will be invalid and will not be considered for evaluation.
REGISTRATION FEE
There is no registration fee.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Last date for receipt of answer sheet of step I Screening test: 30th October 2017
Those who qualified for the Step II examinations will be intimated by 10th November 2017
The final examination will be during the first half of December 2017 at Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode. The exact date will be intimated to those who qualify for the step II examination.
TRAVEL SUPPORT
Those five candidates who qualify for Step II examination will be paid 3AC Train fare to travel up to Kozhikode from their home place and return journey.

AWARD FUNCTION
The winner of the final examination will be awarded the Bruce Davis Gold Medal in Palliative Medicine, a citation and cash award of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only).
The award will be presented in a function held during the International Conference of IAPC at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in Funerary 2018

Dr. Rohanti Ravikulan has won the Bruce Davis Gold Medal 2016, in the final examination held at Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode on 17th .....
Dr. Rohanti Ravikulan has won the Bruce Davis Gold Medal 2016, in the final examination held at Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode on 17th December 2016. Dr. Rohanti has completed MBBS from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore.
This examination aims to improve awareness about palliative care among young doctors in India. The winner will be awarded the Bruce Davis Gold Medal,a Citation and a Cash Award of Rs. 25,000. The award will be presented at the 24th International Conference of Indian Association of Palliative Care held at Coimbatore in February.2017.
Bruce Davis Gold Medal examination was launched by Institute of Palliative Medicine to honour Mr. Wilfred Bruce Davis, MBE, UK. He has supported many palliative care projects in India including the construction of the Institute of Palliative Medicine. He is the founder of W.B.Davis Charitable Trust, UK.
Bruce Davis Gold Medal Examination is the only national level program to honour junior doctors in India for their excellence in Palliative Medicine.
The examination includes two steps. First level is a national level screening test conducted as an online examination. Step I screening test comprises of 100 MCQs. 60% of questions are from the subjects covered during the MBBS Course and 40% questions are from Palliative Medicine. Candidates who get first 5 ranks are further evaluated in the step II-final examination conducted at Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode.

The final examination has three levels of evaluation. Theory, Assessment of Clinical skills and Viva.

In 2016, the following candidates scored top 5 spots in the step 1 screening test:
Dr. Nandan Choudhary, Dr. Puneet Rathore ( MD in Palliative Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi) Dr. praneeth suvvari ( DM Onco anaesthesia and palliative medicine at AIIMS , New Delhi), Dr. Rohanti Ravikulan (MBBS from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore), and Dr. Anusha S (MBBS from Meenakshi Medical College, Kanchipuram) and participated in the Step II - final examination.
Dr. Rohanti Ravikulan is the winner in the final examination.
Dr. Lulu Mathews, Medical Officer, Institute of Palliative Medicine (Chairperson, Board of Examiners, IAPC) is the coordinator of Bruce Davis Gold Medal Examination. Dr. Anil Paleri, Director, IPM and Dr. S. Adinarayanan, Additional Professor, JIPMER Puducherry were the examiners.
